Shard & Shield: Preorders & Loot & Charity

Today is the official start of Shard & Shield‘s preorder countdown, and I’ve got goodies to share!

Got a minute? Let me tell you about what’s available if you order your copy in advance. Bonus: You get the sadistic glee of watching me try to be all professional as cold rain intensifies. (It’s winter in New Zealand, where I recorded this just a couple weeks ago.)

ā€œMagic mixes with grease and jazz in this fantastic new anthology that brims with strong heroines, diverse settings, and a heaping helping of Nazi-punching.ā€

That’s the early word on Grimm, Grit, & Gasoline, a dieselpunk fairy tale collection. And today we get to see the cover!

Cover Reveal: Shard & Shield!

I am ridiculously excited to share this with you today, both because I love this cover and because it kicks off the whole process that makes this book real.

Shard & Shield is the first in a new epic fantasy trilogy. Keep an eye on the blog and social media for details on great pre-order deals and goodies, because I have some fun stuff for you, but today we’re showing off the cover.

But first, here’s a real quick tease:

He can save her life—if he sacrifices himself and those he swore to protect.

A Short Story for the End of 2017 — For Charity

I have a new short story out for charity. Here’ s how it happened:Ā I was driving along Tuesday night, musing that I wished I’d released one more thing this year — even though it’s been a good writing year for me — just so I could say I’d done twelve releases in twelve months. For the sheer symmetry of it. I also thought I should have planned ahead to do a charity fundraiser again.

And then I realized that I could put those two desires together.

So I pulled out a short story with a Christmas theme, whipped up a quick cover, and we’re ready to go.A Short Story for the End of 2017 — For Charity

Valley of the Broken

Guest Post: K F Baugh, The Monsters We Are

Today’s guest post is from K F Baugh — why yes, we are related, by marriage — on her new book Valley of the Broken. As I also write from traditional folklore and various cultures, I really like her take on traditional folkloric representations of the humanity we still are now, and what that means for us.

Valley of the Broken

Who can say what will spark the idea for new book?

In my case, it was a monster.

Let me back up.Guest Post: K F Baugh, The Monsters We Are

Mrs. Claus - Not the Fairy Tale They Say

Cover Reveal: Mrs. Claus

From the iconic 1947 filmĀ Miracle on 34th Street to Clement Moore’s immortal poem “A Visit from St. Nicholas” to Rise of the Guardians (with a great burly Santa) to Santa Claus Conquers the Martians (too awful even for my schlock-loving B-movie taste), Saint Nick has gotten a lot of attention. But there’s another figure who has been consistently overlooked, and it’s time she gets her due.

I mean Mrs. Claus, of course.

And so I am pleased to announce a new anthology of stories all about the lady behind the jolly old elf.Cover Reveal: Mrs. Claus
