Enter your guess at what name is in the books’ inscription, and the winner will receive a free box of books and swag!
While signing and shipping to fulfill the Backerkit campaign, I ended up signing an extra set of books to the same name. Honestly, one bonus signing is a pretty good error rate among so many packages, but now I have an extra set of books. Ordinarily I’d donate them to a library or one of our semi-regular tell-me-where-to-donate-a-book polls, but I thought it’d be fun to play a little game.
Let’s guess the name in the books!
The name to which the books were personalized is a fairly popular one, and at its peak use in the 20th century 3 or 4 out of every hundred USAmerican babies were given this name. (I actually had four backers with this personal name.) Then a major brand, established in the 1980s and a powerhouse in the 90s, included this name. It’s a single-word name, no Billy Ray or Carrie Ann kinds of combos.
If you think this might be your name or the name of a friend, enter it below. If the correct name is submitted more than once, the winner will be determined randomly, most likely via my tabletop gaming dice. The winner will receive the complete box of books and swag matching the duplicated backer’s tier, plus a few other things I’m throwing in for fun:
- The Poet’s Eye in hardback
- The Prince’s Song in hardback
- an Eyes of Mandoral enamel pin
- an Eyes of Mandoral sticker
- an Eyes of Mandoral themed button
- an Eyes of Mandoral themed magnet and bottle opener
- two sets of character art prints
- a Fair Night, Farm Boy sticker
- a holiday sparkle book sticker
- a book phoenix sticker
- a set of Booktopia oracle art cards for The Eyes of Mandoral
The winner is responsible for shipping costs — not inflated, I’ll use the real bill — to themselves or their friend. This offer is open internationally; just be aware that international shipping may be up to $50 USD for several pounds of chonky books, depending on destination, and any relevant additional fees are not covered. (You can accept or decline after hearing the actual cost.) Winner must be a subscriber to the newsletter (if you’re not yet, fix that here).
I will request some form of name verification before shipping, to prevent someone just dumping census data into the form and to make sure the books go to a person with the matching name, but I’ll work with you if it’s a gift.
You may enter more than once, trying all your friends’ names; I promise to tell the winner you thought of them first. Entries due by August 31, 2025. Good luck!
This is not a raffle or a lottery, no one is paying to play, no purchase is necessary, and ultimately the rules just follow my best efforts to be both fair and fun. Form data will be used solely to select a winner and then deleted.
Update:
I’m pleased to report that in the flurry of initial entries, the winning name has indeed been submitted! Entries will remain open until August 31, at which point a single winner will be selected from all entries with both the correct name and a current subscription. So keep submitting!
