Oops – Holiday Cards 2024

Well, at least I made the error in the moral-high-ground direction.

Each year I send Christmas cards to all who want one. Last year I opened some purchases to help defray costs but not make a profit, and you can read all about it at this year’s sign-up post.

But I made an error when I set up this year’s cards and purchases, which you can probably identify here:

That’s right — after calculating the price at 3.99, which was nearly a dollar short of costs (intentionally), I then listed the price as a dollar less than that. (I also ordered more expensive cards, but at least that was done knowingly.) Clever mathematicians will realize 2.99 just about covers the USPS domestic stamps alone, without cards or processing fees.

So if there was ever any question of whether I’m profiting off the cards, there’s your answer. ????????

But I have always said I’d cover the costs of cards even if the supplementary purchases are zero, and that’s still true. In fact, hold on a moment /clickety clack clack typing click clack/ in fact, I’ve now disabled the Extra Cards donation option, because I have some amazing readers who would try to step up for this. No, I’ve got the cards, and if you really want to do something, go visit the Create-A-Thon charity fundraiser.

I love how people get excited for the cards and for helping with the cards, and I’m delighted when someone mentions the cards project when we meet in person at Origins or Gen Con or another event. And yes, there will still be a food drive donation when all the cards are accounted for, because I’m not letting my bad typing interfere with that.

Watch for them in your real-life mailbox soon!

(Did you miss the card signup this year? I post about it on my blog every year, or sign up for the monthly newsletter so you don’t have to remember to start checking.)
