Holiday Cards! 2024 Edition

Every year, I offer to send Christmas cards to anyone who wants one. It’s been so much fun to send cards all over the world!

After the card requests really took off, I started considering how I could manage costs while still making cards available to anyone who wanted one, free of charge. Last year’s experiment went very well, ending with a donation to a food bank, so we’re doing a simpler version this year.

Option #1: Exactly the same as always. You sign up, you get a holiday card. No purchase required, just Christmas spirit!

Option #2: Get a holiday card and a cool custom metallic cardstock bookmark. Your purchase helps to fund sending cards to others for free. Thank you! This year, because we’re sending bookmarks, there’s no additional shipping charge.

Optional Option #3: Because some amazing people last year wanted a way to support free cards even beyond the purchase, you can contribute additionally. Any money here will go 100% toward paying for cards and postage, and any surplus will go directly to a food bank charity. (See both last year’s results and donation and the FAQ below.)

Thank you, and please sign up before the deadline!

Got Questions?

What if I just want a card for free?

Sign up for the regular free card option. No purchase required! The other options are for those who want something extra or who want to help defray the costs of cards for everyone. (Thank you!)

Can I order a card and bookmark for someone else?

Absolutely! ‘Tis the season for giving, after all. Just enter your name and address for billing and their name and mailing address as shipping recipient, and make sure you have chosen the appropriate (domestic or international) shipping option. Please make each purchase to a different shipping address in a separate transaction, to make sure addresses are processed correctly.

When do orders close?

I need time to sign and ship, so orders will close on November 16, 2023.

Are these limited availability?

The whole point was to avoid limiting the availability of Christmas cards for those who wanted them. Order all you want, and we’ll print more if necessary!

This looks like you’re monetizing Christmas. Are you making money off this?

No. Sure, I’m normally a for-profit author (and thanks for buying my books)! But that’s not the purpose here.

The paid options are priced to cover their own physical costs and then most of a few additional cards. Neither is priced to fully cover all costs. This is clearly not a moneymaking venture.

A spreadsheet shows calculations for card and postage costs, donations, and credit card processing fees. Some cells contain figures like 3.99 and 3.75, while others show negative values in red, such as -0.92851 and -0.03585.

Last year, we came just a few dollars of total costs, and then I donated $1,000 to a food bank because I’d spent less on printing and postage than I would have normally. No money at all was kept from cards.

What if I’ve signed up in a previous year?

You’ll need to sign up or order again. For privacy reasons, I do not retain recipient addresses after printing and mailing.
