The 8-Hour Challenge follow-up: Smoke and Fears

Smoke and Fears, a gaslight fantasyRemember the 8-Hour Book Challenge I described a few days ago? Today Konrath posted the achievers, and you can find them here. (Check them out; you might find something fun!)

Even before Konrath’s post went live, however, Smoke and Fears somehow started climbing the chart, and it’s reached #13 on Amazon’s Free Historical Fantasy list. Which is pretty cool, even if temporary.

Two alert readers pointed out where Marsden’s name had not been updated (see original post addendum where I talked about replacing his name to avoid conflict with another popular gaslight domestic), but that should be fixed now. That’s the risk of trying to pull off something like the 8-Hour Challenge! but honestly I’m glad I did it. It was a fun adventure and even a little educational.

And, either due to Amazon’s author algorithm boost or readers clicking on to purchase another title, Kitsune-Tsuki experienced a 20%+ jump in sales, too, to land also at #13 in Fantasy: Asian Myths and Legends. (Though to be fair, I didn’t know there even was such a category. It’s easier to be a top seller with such niche reports!)

Thanks to J. A. Konrath for the challenge!

Update:

Smoke and Fears peaked at #8 on the Free Historical Fantasy list before the free promotional pricing ended and the title had to start earning rank again from scratch at regular price. Yeah, I’m happy with that!

  1. I don’t think even Joe realized just how many people would complete his challenge. He kept posting on KBoards yesterday about how long it was taking him to put the post together. Lots of variety in the winners, too. Definitely some fun reads.

Smoke and Fears sounded good, so I picked it up and added it to my reading queue. :)
